Hello again!

Before I start – I HAVE got posts lined up. Because these aren’t, to me, proper posts. Just… updates. More like xD

Anyway – I have entered this competition which is on the www.threadsthebook.com website. It’s a great book written by Sophia Bennett, and I got a Bliss magazine a while back and on one page they had this little snippet at the bottom about this dress design competition, run by Threads, Bliss and Tammy. I thought it was brilliant because I loved the book, love Bliss (not as much as Sugar, but its close!) and I like Tammy!

But I was busy (and a procrastinator) so I only started it yesterday, heh. And the deadline was Monday 4th, and there is NO POSTAL DELIVERIES UNTIL MONDAY!!

Anywho. I finished my design today and popped it in the post.

THEN, I managed to get the email of Sophia Bennett (she is one of the judges obviously) and asked if it was possible for a deadline extension due to being no postal deliveries because it is New Year. She replied back prompt saying that she will ask the publishers. So fingers crossed it is okay!!

Hello It is a very random title. Okay, it has SOME sense – because technically I have sort of neglected the blog, so I could be a tree. Because trees don’t have access to the internet. But oh well.

Anywho – I am sorry I haven’t posted much – life has been pretty hectic… I have had my Christmas dance at school… the holidays…. an art project to finish… a dress design competition to enter… Christmas…

BUT, I have written down ideas for two posts… one to sum up about Christmas and cool websites and what I have been doing – and one to show off one cool website. But this will be done within…. a few weeks? I have THREE DAYS to DO MY WHOLE DRESS DESIGN for this competition – and I have UNTIL TUESDAY TO FINISH MY ART PROJECT.

Hey everybody Here is me doing a little advertising again for that lovely company Dubit!

Blink Mag is an online magazine specifically for teens. There is tons of different articles on there, and there is even a special section where teens have their say – they can write their own articles for it! (One of mine is up there!! Check “The Problem with style”)

The good thing about Blink is that it isn’t force feedng you information such as “you MUST eat this” and “you MUST eat that” and “smoking is REALLY BAD FOR YOU” and “never ever get DRUNK” because yeah, they are bad, but no teenager will every respect you if you shout information they ALREADY KNOW to them. It is just a bit silly. So blink is different. They have interesting facts, articles that actually are pretty cool to read and there is other teens opinions of different things up there too.

Hehe, I thought of this as the title as me and my little sister are currently watching Wizard of Oz. I don’t actally know why, but I think it might be because my sister finished watching an episode of Scrubs (woooooooo! Gooo Scrubs!)  which ending with “Somewhere over the Rainbow” and my sister put the Wizard of Oz DVD on and we just ended up watching it, lol.

OH I have a coolio thing to report about! I am sre most of yo shall know about Facebook, and most probably have an account on it. But my most favourite application (app) on Facebook is…

Restaurant City!

It is MEGA fun. My restaurant is called Aubergine (hehe, oberjean!) and I am level 14 at the moment. I am hopeflly going to be level 15 by the end of the night though! Here is a screenie of my restaurant at the moment:

I am REALLY sorry hwo I haven’t posted recently – I jst have been UBER busy with school & homework and real life and all that crap :[ I’m also hoping for my mum to teach me dressmaking/sewing soon so that I know how to do for the dressmaking part of my Standard Grade Art & Design course. Well, there’s other work in ym art class which are dresses and stuff, so I think I might do a dress too!

I always have ideas to post about when I haven’t got the time to post, but when I actually get around to posting all those ideas aboslutely vanish into thin air! I get very annoyed with myself sometimes >_<

I need to update 101 in 1001 soon, I think I did it quite recently, I am sure I have done it in October, but I need to update it again so I don’t forget ^__^

So moving on. I would like  to let you all know that I am doing another Dubit Insider team, starting on 30th November.  Here is the paragraph about the team from the initial document.

The Food Standards Agency, or FSA, has asked Dubit to help promote healthy living to teens over the next few months. As part of this campaign Dubit’s Interactive department are developing an application that will sit on Facebook and Bebo, this app will be packed with information, hints, tips and advice all focused around healthy living. As part of this team you would be asked to drive as many people as possible to become fans of the applications on Facebook and Bebo.

The App will effectively be an online lifestyle magazine targeted at 13 – 17 year olds. Features include:

• Articles from stylish, influential young people
• ‘Word on the street’ section by King Adz (www.vimeo.com/4677591)

• Personal Plan

• Competitions

• Quizzes

• Funniest Video of the Week

And articles on:

• Food & Drink

There’ll also be a section dedicated to content provided by you guys. This can be written pieces, videos that you think are relevant, or gross out pictures. This content is coming exclusively from members of this team and will be viewed by thousands of young people, including all of your friends!

This will be a great point to include in your C.V./UCAS application, particularly for those of you interested in pursuing University courses and careers with a focus on writing and/or new media (English, Media, Marketing, Journalism etc).

I bolded the last bit because I am UBER excited about that! It’s a good extra thing to have, methinks. Maybe I should go into journalism? My mum said that during work experience week in S4, if I still want to try out journalism (in case I want to try out something else by then) I can get some experience at a local newspaper or EVEN A MAGAZINE!! I wold love to be an intern at a fashion magazine, for example.

Which brings me onto the next topic!

I used a website called www.etsy.com to help with my Art & Design homework to find insect/butterfly related jewellry, and it really helped! I recommend it for pictures too, but I am sure there is a lot of good quality stuff there if you are interested

Paperfashion is a very cool blog by Katie Rodgers. She recently was a victim of plagiarism – a 12 year old girl from Lithuania on Stardoll pretended soem of Katie Rodgers BEAUTIFUL fashion drawings were hers, and sent them into Stardoll Admin. Stardoll then conveniently made a shop dedicated to the drawings – making clothes based on the drawings. But, thanks to wonderfl Stardoll bloggers the truth was uncovered as the controversial girl was caght red handed, and said “sorry”. Just goes to show that people really do try and copy things and think that they can actually get away with it.

So don’t steal things, kids. I’ll leave you with an uber cool cupcake from the Paper Fashion website!!

Please note: I’m going to be talking about my body here… I’m pretty insecure about my body, so this is pretty much me trying to… not be so insecure.

Now that that is over with – I’m sorry I haven’t been posting very much lately. It’s just that I haven’t really had any ideas about a post that I could make.

Cos you know I like interesting posts xD Well, most of the time.

So for the first part of this post I’ll be talking about my body (yippee) and why teens are so insecure. After that will be Skin Secrets. And after THAT I’ll talk about what I’ve been up to!

So, starting off with my body. I hate my body. Okay, there are some parts I like. Okay, scratch that. Some days I FEEL like I like my body. But I think deep down I actually don’t. One day I hopefully will, but that is in the future.

Why do I, then? Because I’m so sticky thin. Well… in a way I like being quite light (I’m gaining weight though! YAY) because it just feels like home, to be perfectly honest. It feels weird actually being a healthy weight. I know, sounds a bit  stupid doesn’t it?

I KNOW I shouldn’t want to attract boys because of my looks, but because of the STUPID media etc. that is how I feel now. I have small boobs. Very small. Hardly there. (Secret to bigger boobs? Wear a bra. ITS A MIRACLE WORKER) I feel very self conscious about it because:

• a) Pretty much every other girl in my year had boobs in S1 (and still has, obviously, in S3)
• and b) I’m the oldest girl in my year

My mum always says to me that everyone else grows at a different time, and I know that, but I still WORRY and feel SELF CONSCIOUS even THOUGH I KNOW that. What is wrong with me?

I got onto this topic for a post when I got an email from gurlpages.com, their newsletter, which was saying about their boob files (I lol’ed in real life). I clicked on it, and managed to find the one that suits me – small boobs. And this lovely thing made me feel just slightly better about my figure:

So yeah…. I’m going to try and not feel so down, and actually start believing that eventually they will grow. Eventually xD

Skin Secrets

Whoops whoooop! I got the inspiration from Doe Deere’s Blogazine – she had a lovely post up about skin secrets ^_^

So an important part of keeping your skin healthy is to CLEANSE, TONE, AND MOISTURISE!

What the hell are they?! You might ask. Or you might not.

1. CLEANSE – Use a cleanser on a cotton pad, smooth on face and rinse off with warm water. This removes all the yuckiness on your skin, makeup and all!
2. TONE – Also plop some on a cotton pad, wipe in upwards and outwards motions. (don’t rinse off!) This pretty much follows on after the cleanser, making sure there isn’t any yuckiness still left. It refreshes the skin ^_^
3. MOISTURISE – Squeeze a little amount onto your hand, rub your hands and smooth it gently with upwards and outwards movements. Moisturising helps increase your circulation and gives your skin a revitalising boost by plumping up the skin cells with moisture (that’s where the name comes from xD)

And you might be wondering what is the best cleanser/toner/moisturiser to use? Well I couldn’t really say because I haven’t tried every single one out. But I j’adore the Simple Kind to Skin range.

I use:

• Simple (Kind to Skin) Hydrating Light Moisturiser
• Simple (Kind to Skin) Purifying Cleansing Lotion
• Simple (Kind to Skin) Soothing Facial Toner

And they work maaaaagnificently! And:

1. They have vital vitamins in them
2. They are skin loving nutrients
3. There is no perfume and no colour SO IT WON’T UPSET YOUR SKIN!!

So it is perfect for sensitive skin ^_^ I don’t have sensitive skin, but it’s kind to the environment and not like other skin products, and they are pretty cheap too (and usually on offer at Boots)!

(I also have Simple (Kind to Skin) Refreshing Facial Wash Gel, which I use every couple of days and works well too!)

Can you tell I’m obsessed with skincare?

Probably, but maybe not xD I always like looking at the skincare aisle in Boots rather than anywhere else, lol.

I have other skincare stuff but Simple is the best out of it.

APART from my Garnier Skin Naturals Pure 3in1 Wash, Scrub + Mask! XD I saw it in an advertisement on several magazines, and it looked pretty darn good, but they didn’t have it in my local Boots. So one time when I went uptown with my Mum, we looked in a Superdrug (not there) and another Superdrug (not there) and then in a bigger Boots (there! 8D).

So enough about your daily skincare regime. Let’s move onto tips you need to know. Thanks to Doe Deere for these tips ^_^

• Don’t get a REAL tan – use fake tanning instead, because real tanning means you are damaging your skin from the UV rays in the sun, and it can lead to skin cancer. Try not to avoid the sun at all though, because you need Vitamin D, which you get from the sun ^__^
• Always wear suncream when you’re going out in the sun. Apply 15 mins before going out
• Water is incredibly good for your body, it makes up 75% of you (fact fans rejoice!)! Water hydrates your body, so you need to drink at least 8 cups of water a day.
• Don’t ever ever ever go to bed with your makeup on! Night is THEE time for skin rejuvination, and if you have makeup on it blocks your pores. And this means spots, people! Always wash off your makeup ^_^ But always wash your face twice daily, anyway!

And I think that is it! I’m verging on 1000 words so I better crack on with my news for this week, lol

BEANIE’S HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK

So the last few weeks or so were average :/ Or maybe I just can’t remember anything!

Anyway, on Friday I went down the high street to get my passport (WOOOO) photo taken. It is very bad, so I have only shown my mum (who was with me) and my dad (just cos) it, because I’m very embarassed (yay for insecurity!) because it is a very bad picture of me xD I just wish we could smile in passport photos! I wouldn’t have to worry at all!

Today, I cleared out parts of my room which desperately needed it. I ended  up getting a lot of nostalgia looking at some stuff, and then being a bit sad But I chose wisely and now my room is a lot cleaner! I also got my haircut today (remember that time in…… April? I hated my fringe PRETTY DARN BAD), and

HALLELUUUJAH!

I don’t hate it. It’s meh, but it’ll grow ^_^ It’s better than the time in April, that’s for sure. I think my hairdresser just listened better, or I explained better, probably

YAY! I was glad to get them last… October/September, but I am so glad they are coming off now, because they are getting so annoying! It takes ages to brush my teeth D: I’m getting a retainer tomorrow too, but I don’t know if it is like the ones I had before. Hopefully not xD

By the way, I won’t be posting from FRIDAY the 23rd, to I think around Sunday 25th

We’re going to go see my great aunt and uncle who are a LARF. I cannot wait xD

SOrry I haven’t been posting… I have just been SO busy. I AM GOING TO BELGIUM!!! W000!!! For S3 activity week
I will be getting a passport too!

So yeah…. I haven’t got much else to say except… the maths test (non calc. and calc.) were EASY. And Modern Studies tets was easy too. Much easier than I thought.

Ohoho. Tomorrow I MIGHT be getting m traintracks off! Woo! Unfortunately I will be missing Art So I’ll be a bit behind, le sigh.

Ummm. I wish I could do a longer post but I don’t know what I could talk about.. anyone got an idea??

Oh, and I can’t join CyberMentors because they don’t have a training session near me – they only do it at a school. It’d be kind of impossible to get one at my school, haha.

I was reading my little sister’s Shout magazine (the most recent one, check it out!) and came across an article about bullying/cyberbullying and suicide, basically. And there was a real life story, about how a girl got help from this website called:

And it looked really interesting so I decided to check it out. I love helping people, and what better way to feel good is by helping other people? And I’m usually online at this time of the day, so I could help people whenever!

I applied to be a CyberMentor, tried to email the guy involved in training sessions (apparently its in schools, so thats annoying) and I registered on it, to see what it was like.

I found this TRUE story on the website:

Alice’s Story

Alice was subjected to such violent attacks in school at the hands of her bullies that she had to go to hospital and now at university still suffers from the after effects.

As a result of her injuries, Alice has visited a physiotherapist, an osteopath and a psychologist. She received compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority, but she had already been told that she would have to learn to deal with the pain and would be on painkillers for the rest of her life.

Alice said: “I was incredibly unhappy. It got to the stage where I got so emotionally and physically distressed that I became extremely depressed and, at times, suicidal.”

In the first incident, when Alice was aged 13, she was hit over the back of her head during a lesson with such force that her glasses fell off and her brace dislodged in her mouth. After three days of headaches, she was taken to A and E where she was diagnosed with whiplash.

The shoulder and neck pain, combined with headaches and a difficulty in focusing, forced Alice to miss several days of school. When she returned, no one believed that she was injured, and she was ostracised from her group of friends. Gangs of pupils spat at her, threatened her and threw books and rubbish at her.

Not surprisingly, Alice became withdrawn, frightened and unhappy. She dreaded going to school, and would develop stomach ache on Sunday evenings so she could avoid the bullies. She saw a counsellor and it was agreed that the primary bully would be moved from her form group.

Although the individual was moved the following year, Alice was blamed and the bullying got worse. She was assaulted again, by another pupil, aggravating her previous injuries. The incident was reported to the police, but no action was taken, leaving Alice scared to go to school.

The Headmistress and LEA Welfare Officer agreed that it was impractical for Alice to remain at school. After two years out of the mainstream education system, she was accepted to another school, but she still suffered from the effects of her bullying. She excluded herself from any groups and her self-confidence was very low.

During sixth form, in addition to the physiotherapy that Alice continued to have to treat the injuries inflicted by her bullies, the continual disability and inability to participate in normal teenage activities understandably caused psychological effects and she reluctantly agreed to see a clinical psychologist.

Alice said: “I suffered from extreme paranoia. I was too scared to go into crowded places or stand up and talk in front of the class. I was even too scared to walk into the canteen to get my lunch and I ended up only eating breakfast and dinner, which obviously led to weight loss, headaches and a weakened immune system.”

Despite this adversity, Alice succeeded academically and was accepted to University.  Unfortunately, due to her strong painkillers, she could not neither keep pace with her studies, nor enjoy the experience of university. It was suggested that she withdraw from her first year to have her injuries properly sorted before repeating the year. A specialist found serious scar tissue from her previous bullying injuries and she is now undergoing a series of steroid injections.

In a bizarre twist, during her year out from uni, Alice received an email from her tormentor at school who inflicted the first injury and sparked the years of pain. He apologised and tried to explain his actions, something that Alice never expected, but believes has helped her. Although she is no longer bullied, and she is now happier and less depressed, she still suffers from the physical and psychological effects of her ordeal.

And that story really inspired me to want to become a CyberMentor, except it takes them a couple of days/weeks to get back to you.

I’ll keep you all informed on the status! Hopefully I’ll become one

I like mini posts! So here is another mini post.

PHYSICS TEST WAS THE HARDEST TEST I HAVE EVER DONE. I have completely and utterly FAILED.

On the other hand, I am one paragraph away from completely memorising my French essay! 4 paragraphs down, one to go! Yippeeeee!

That means I’ll have it memorised tonight, and until Friday I can just remember it!! Then, after we have a writing test, where we have to WRITE the essay. Shouldn’t be too hard as I’ll have it memorised already

Anyways… I have FOUR POSTS IN THE PIPELINE!! So look for more to be coming your way this weekend! ^_^ I’m glad a lot of you liked my Malawi post, so I’ll keep you all posted ^____^

Hello again ^_^ Today —- mission is a longer post! And also to update 101 in 1001, do my pointless contest, and my maths homework, Yayyy(!)

So, you may be wondering what the title means today. And guess what? The title ACTUALLY MEANS SOMETHING! I know… big stuff right? Well, to be honesst it isn’t THAT hard to guess what it means, if you know where Malawi is.

Okay, let’s start at the beginning. My high school, NBHS, is over the course of this school year (09/10, see that part of the title now? xD) taking part in an exciting initiative to raise awareness of life in Malawi. Oh, and enhance it a bit too. The first thing we’re doing is the Back Pack Project. This is being done with the charity MARY’S MEALS (visit them over here!). Basically, you collect backpacks and send them to schoolchildren in Malawi (with stuff IN the bags, obviously).

We just find old school bags which are in good nick, and fill them up with stationery, toiletries and some clothing items like….

• Notepad
• Pencils
• Pens
• Crayons
• Eraser
• Ruler
• Sharpener
• Pencil Case
• Towel
• Shorts
• shorts/shirt & t-shirt, or dress
• Flip Flops/Sandals
• Small ball e.g. tennis ball
• Soap
• Toothbrush
• Toothpaste
• and a spoon

(obviously, we label the bag with what kind of age its for, and if its for a girl or a boy)

NBHS is working with the cluster primary schools (which feed into the HS) to try and collect 1500 backpacks. 750 from us, and the rest from the primary schools (there are 5, including the primary school I went to). I desperately want to help, so I’ve been thinking which bag I could use to donate. And also what I’m putting into it!

PHASE 2

We are also collecting £7000 just in our school (I think, or the primary schools could be helping) to also pay for a kitchen to be made IN THE SAME SCHOOL WE ARE SENDING OUR BAGS TOO!! This will mean that the kids there will get a proper meal whilst at school, whereas before they wouldn’t have.

This will also mean more kids will come to school because they get a free square meal! MMM.

We watched some videos from the Mary’s Meals website about the Backpack Project and also about building a kitchen in my PSE class on Wednesday.

AND GUESS WHAT?! Because I am an involving person, and love raising money, I have already started! I skipped my lunch on Wednesday (FIRST TIME EVER, k?) and with the money I didn’t spend on lunch, I am donating to the Malawi cause! I feel like I actually have done something to help now

We were meant to be bringing in money to donate today, but I forgot.

Luckily though, because it was ze launch of the appeal today, a lot of money was raised anyway! So I will have to find out where to donate my £2 I didn’t spend on lunch to……

Also, as I said it was the launch, I missed a bit of Physics before break, as I had an earlier break! Then I sang during normal break to welcome the VIPS! Then I also missed part of French because we were singing in the canteen to some people (all the rest of the school were back in class by then, phew, lol)

So I was pretty busy today!

IN OTHER NEWS…..

Let’s see, I’ve been sending some postcrossing cards! Yaaaay! My China one arrived yesterday, and my Finland card arrived a few days earlier So now I am officially due 2 new postcards! I can’t wait for them to arrive in the post!

Unfortunately, next week is ridden with tests. Well, two tests to be precise. But I’m sooooo going to FAILS THEM. On Tuesday I have a Physics test, and on Friday I have a FRENCH SPEAKING TEST.

I HAVE TO….

MEMORISE A 200 WORD ESSAY FOR IT. :O

Omgomgomgomg. I’m so going to fail that! I feel bad already about it…

*sniff* So I am just going to grin and bear it – I will revise for both of them. Thoroughly. VERY thoroughly.

HEY HEY! I have good new! You know that video I made for Dubit Insider? I got a thankyou card and a £5 voucher for it! woo I spent 3 days not for absolutely nothing XD

Hmmm. Okay this post is now verging on 760 words. I may just stop typing now! I will try to remember what else I was saying, and pop it in my next post XD
